 The current administration, or where the current administration is herding us, has been described in various ways. (1) Fascist. Here we have a strong leader directing major private commercial entities to work in state-approved directions. With people’s values seen as mattering only as workers in the government-business machine. (2) An autocracy. A strong autocrat directing government priorities, actions, and contract awards. The leader demands loyalty and obedience. (3) A kleptocracy. The administration awards family and friends with positions and contracts and business. The administration expects repayment, favors, bribes, etc. Everyone in favor gets richer, others not so.

 One must prepare for disconcerting discussions, when you can have a discussion, with people who have been seeing the world through Faux-colored glasses. I’m sure you have examples. Perhaps it would be instructive to share good or bad dialogues to help others think about ploys for constructive engagement….or combating an uninformed/informed debater.
 Washington, DC How will Trump/DOGE cuts hit here? How will they affect our local citizenry? For sure the cuts will affect some of us personally, and they should determine how we try to influence our public. It won’t do any good to talk about how the administration is hurting our standing in the world of scientific research or support for global health programs. We have to point to issues that directly impact our neighbors or problems that they can understand will be coming.
So, this is an area we need to revisit, revise, and find ways to use. |
